In 2023, Revival underwent a significant transformation, positioning itself as a "Creative Living Gathering." This shift emphasized our commitment to the concept of creative living—a journey of relearning, discovering new paths to healing, entertainment, self-expression, health, wellness, and unmasking to reveal a more authentic self.
2023 Overview
Multifaceted Community Stage
As part of this transformation, we revamped our music stage, creating a dynamic community stage that became a vibrant hub for diverse activities. Here, festival-goers engaged in a "pub" quiz, found solace in early morning yoga sessions, enjoyed the brilliance of "CAMP: A Drag Show In Nature," and reveled in captivating opening ceremonies featuring performance art.
At its core, our community stage was designed to be accessible to everyone, encouraging maximum participation and creativity. Revival's transformation into a "Creative Living Gathering" marked a profound shift in our identity, welcoming individuals to explore their creative potential, nurture connections, and embark on a journey of self-discovery.
Celebrating Self-Expression
In a departure from the traditional approach of curating an overly polished music lineup, we welcomed bands, performances, and workshops and activities of all experience levels, fostering an environment where artists could experiment, collaborate, and passionately pursue their craft without the pressure of delivering perfection.
Unifying Through Contemplation
In 2023, Revival introduced 'Contemplations,' focusing on self-reflection and growth. Our Contemplation for the year was Kintsugi, guiding our entire festival. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer and gold or silver. It celebrates the history of objects, embracing breakage and repair as integral parts of their story. Kintsugi encourages us to cherish our imperfections and see beauty in the incomplete.
Festival Highlights
We incorporated our Contemplation into our Opening Ceremonies and encouraged workshop facilitators and artists to infuse it into their offerings, making it a visual marker of growth. Our art department brought Kintsugi to life using mannequins as the base for art installations. These sculptures, created by our community, reflected the transformative nature of Kintsugi. Our Opening Ceremonies presented a tea party, with elaborate table displays featuring the sculptures as centerpieces, a performance by Madazon Can-Can and her Clown Troupe, and brought everyone together before schedules filled up attending workshops and events.
Revival's Growth
In 2023, after two years under the care of The Divine Assembly, we became a non-profit organization. We established a steering committee and expanded our departments. Our volunteer force tripled, attendance remained strong, and we began laying the foundation for more programs and expanding existing ones, such as The Watchmen and our Ticketing Assistance Program.
2023 was a year of growing for the organization, shaping its identity, and strengthening the community.
