Introducing Contemplations to Revival

The summer solstice invites us to set our intentions through patience, nourishment, and trust. This year we are introducing a new facet to Revival. Each year we will be offering participants a new Contemplation to inspire their intentions for that years festival. These are concepts that unify our experience.  We invite our performers, facilitators, artists, and healers to be inspired by these concepts and incorporate them into their offerings.  We hope these focal points can be used in our connections together, either as a visual metaphor or as our markers of growth. This year's Contemplation is Kintsugi, or, Mended By Gold.

Kintsugi,/kinˈsuɡi/, also known as Kintukuroi, is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer and gold, or silver. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. Kintsugi invites us to appreciate the delicate compositions created through our growth, as we bring together the pieces of our whole selves and mend our history.

Rather than refurbishing or hiding the cracks and wounds of our person, we learn to hold them as the necessary parts of ourselves that were required. These vessel-ed crevices await the radiance of our journey. By accepting ourselves and each other as sacred art we can hold dearly our irregularities and see beauty in the impermanent and incomplete.
